Building sand rail with 4.3L Chevy motor.

HI All,

Well I am very new to this world, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.  I recently bought myself a Toy Hauler and started thinking about all the fun things I Need to be doing with it.  Well my father in law has a sand rail that needs a bit of work, but over all is ok.  Currently it has a VW 1600 with a 3 rib tranny.  It all works, but some repairs are needed to the Frame Horns, etc.

My real concern is this.  I could be coming into an 89 chevy 4.3L motor.  The adapter to hook this sucker up to the VW tranny is about $460 shipped.  Am I crazy trying to put that motor into the Sand Rail.  It is a two seater and about 10.5 feet long over all. I am guessing that is a 95" wheel base.  Is that going to be too much weight in the back end of that sucker?  I really want to upgrade the motor to make it fast, but need to be sure what i'm doing is not going to cause me any serious problems.

Thanks for hte imput.

~Tim
