Karts vs. ATV
Permalink

I found this site and am grateful for it. My question is, how do the Dazon karts or any of them for that matter work in the sand at Oceano. My family loves the dunes but the problem is we no longer have any toys. We sold all the quads and decided to get into other sports, but my kids are now going nuts and we need to get back to the dunes. I was thinking about purchasing two Karts for the sand and general trail use, but in my last few visits to Oceano I have not seen any of these karts on the beach or in the dunes, granted it has been a year since going over. We are not speed hounds or extreme riders. I liked the ATV's but had karts as a kid and loved them. Would my kids be satisfied with a kart at the dunes after riding atv's, keeping in mind they really only rode around the camp? Any help would be appreciated. We miss the dunes experience, the camping, riding and the people and need some toys before we go!

We have had a great experience with our kart. Our kids love them and so far they have been very safe. My oldest boy broke his leg last year when his quad rolled over and it was a huge bummer. We quit letting them ride anything in the dunes until I finally got a Dazon kart. Now both boys ride it and have a good time. A few of thier friends have tried it and say it is the coolest thing ever. I am going to scrap my quad and try to find an old Odessey to haul my heavy butt around. If any one has one for sale let me know.

I'm sorry to hear about the accident, but do the kids really enjoy the Kart more than the ATV? Aren't these Karts under powered and slow? Not that you have to be fast to be cool but really the ATV's seem to be so much more than the Karts! Climbing hills and riding the bowls seems impossible in these Karts. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested but trying to be objective!

Actually it is plenty fast. Especially for the kids. We have the hop up kit which adds mucho power. And we have paddle tires but even a quad is kinda sucky without paddles. It is fun for me and I am 220 lbs. My boy who is under 100 lbs flys over everything. It pulls him up the steeps and I have seen him catch over 3 feet of air. He would never try that on a quad becasue he would be scared. I have seen other brand karts out there that are under powered. We have raced side by side with a Carter and a Twister. The Twister did have paddles but my boy still dusted them. And I mean dusted them! The other family was kinda bummed when they witnessed thier new purchase get slaughtered in a side by side. Grant it ours is way past break in and thiers was fairly new. The Carter was even weaker but the kid driving was no dare devil. His dad got in it to push it to it's limit but he was a lunker so it was a tough comparison. The dad actually broke something that made them put thier kart on the trailer for the rest of the trip.

As for the kids opinion they say the kart is cooler because it is more original then an ATV which are dime a dozen out here. The get lots of attention and as I mentioned earlier they go biggger becuase they are not afraid of falling off.

Anyone have any other question fell free to ask!

I'm looking for a two seater. Whats the difference btwn the Raider and Raider Max? Is the 150 w/performance kit = to the 175 or even better? If I'm looking for the most power which model should I get. Is there a 250 for CA yet and if not how soon? Whats the typical prices of these as well. Sorry for all the questions!

The 2005 two seaters are now available! The have many upgrade you can see on the other post. Our first ones are in route sowe don't have a pic yet but will in a day or so.

The 175s are not ready for California yet. Not sue when they will be done but it might be a month or two. The 150 is a great kart and with the hop up kit it is faster then then the 175 anyway. No kit fot the 175 yet. The 150 is consumer tested for three years now and the 175 is new.

For pricing and additional questions on the 2005 two seater email sales@sandhighway.com.

2005 150 double vs 175 double... besides the cc/horsepower and price differance ,what sets the two apart.  Are they on the same frame, same tires, size, weight, etc.  I quess my question is: By spending approximately $500 bucks more for the max 175 double what other features am I getting over the 150 double.  My wife says " If your going to spend several thousand on a toy anyway, why not spend a few dollars more and get the max 175."

Thanks for any info,

consumer just trying to make they right/smart decision

The new 2005 150 has many upgrades over the 2004 and I think it is exactly the same as the 175 except for the water-cooled engine. They just released the 2005 150 and we have some on the way here. Should arrive today or tomorrow. The specs show about the same horsepower between the two. The water-cooled engine of the 175 might be a good call If you are riding in a very hot desert environment but I have never heard of the 150 having any heating problems. Personally I would go with the 150 because it is much less complicated and the 150s have been consumer tested for over three years now. The 175 is a relatively new product although we have not seen any problems with the many sold. Another factor is that you can get the hop up kit with a White Brothers pipe, carb jets and a Uni filter for the 150 but the pipe does not fit the 175. I am sure they will eventually make one though. The kit adds about 30% horsepower.

So it is a tough call. If you live in California it will be a while before the emissions testing is completed on the 175. The 150 is certified and currently available. The 175 is available in all other states. Send us an email to sales@sandhighway.com for the best quoted price. Contact us in a few days to get feedback on the 2005 double.

What size engine is in your Dazon? I want to purchase one, but was thinking I should wait for the 250cc to come out. I am a sand dune veteran, had ATCs, Quads, and a full blown buggy. Don't want to be underpowered, but we are not crazy either.

Thanks
